VPN WORK AROUND

This is by far the most affordable option. Basically, some countries will be broadcasting the World Cup for free over the air and online. However, to see the games online, the computer needs to be in that country. The UK is one of those countries (link 1, link 2). However, there is a service called Virtual Private Network ("VPN") which allows sites to think your computer is actually in the country of your choice. If you'd like to give this a try, be sure to read this entire VPN section before you begin to sign up. :)

How to watch the World Cup in English online through the UK:

-Sign up for a VPN service and install their program on your computer. See "VPN Providers" listed below.

-Connect to a UK/England server using your new VPN service.

-Watch the soccer games at the UK's free online streaming website https://tvplayer.com. Here's the full BBC/iTV match schedule.

How to watch the World Cup in Spanish or another language online:

-Sign up for a VPN service and install their program on your computer. See "VPN Providers" listed below.

-Connect to a server in your country of choice using your new VPN service.

-Watch the soccer games at the your selected country's online streaming website. Check out this list of online World Cup broadcasters by language and country.

VPN Providers

Cryptostorm is my favorite. It's $1.86 weekly for one device, $6 monthly for one device, or $52 yearly for four simultaneous devices. I like that they use token-based connections and that their billing system is separate from their account management system. You can read more about their fanciness by going to https://cryptostorm.is and clicking on "Privacy" at the top.

Here are some other VPN Providers: ExpressVPN, Liberty Shield, VyprVPN (link 2), FastestVPN, PureVPN, NordVPN, SaferVPN, BulletVPN, IPVanish, and lots more on Google (link 1, link 2).

Registration Tips

When registering for your free TVPlayer and iTV accounts, be sure to state that you live in the UK and use a UK postal code when asked. "SE1 0LX" without quotes is a postal code in London you can use.

VPN Perks

On a side note, one of the perks in having a VPN service is that it encrypts all the internet activity on your computer so that your internet service provider ("ISP") doesn't know what you're actually doing with your internet connection. It's a nice layer of anonymity and security that can also help you bypass internet censorship from some sites and internet service providers. More info on VPNs here. However, not all VPNs are created the same, so be sure to do your homework when selecting a VPN service.

CONCLUSION

Overall, Sling TV is a great, no-hassles way to go about it. For only $25/mo, you can watch the world cup and share your account with two other friends. Plus, you can basically get rid of your cable TV provider because it comes with 45+ channels! Including The History Channel, National Geographic and truTV among many others. On the other hand, if you'd like to watch the World Cup in Spanish, you really have to go through each service and see which provider is compatible with Telemundo in your area. And, if you don't mind doing a little bit of work, the VPN option is great because of the many perks that come with having a VPN service.

So how are YOU going to make the most of the World Cup!? Comment below!
